About

Meet Dr. Wrye Sententia:

My goal is to help you to write well AND be well.

I help writers of all sorts: from those who just need a little guidance to those who are ready to give up on their dreams. I can coax you forward or pull you away from your writer’s (l)edge.

Typically, when writers are blocked, they are also facing “life-blocks.” Sometimes these pressures come from circumstances, sometimes from the self. At some point, most people working on a large writing project will hit a wall–in spite of talent or effort.

If you’re dismayed at a lack of progress, ashamed of what is (or isn’t) written, I can help. Even accomplished writers can find themselves consumed by annihilating  doubt or crippling self-criticism—what I call their inner banshee.

Banish your Banshee:  Meet your Ally

I am your confidential expert ally. If you feel prevented from, stuck in, or otherwise at odds with your writing goals, please contact me.

Having taught writing for almost fifteen years at the University of California, Davis, I have assisted thousands of people in becoming better writers.  As an experienced writing coach, I have analyzed the many pitfalls to which writers succumb and have developed strategic tools to resolve these barriers. I hold a PhD in English and a Master’s Degree in Comparative Literature and have faced my own inner banshees. My own struggles and exposure to others’ pain in writing set me on an active quest to help others to find freedom and joy in their writing.

In my desire to help writers, I undertook formal training in the neuroscience of motivation and motivational psychology; as well as in how multilingual writers face particular challenges to writing in English. I have researched the psychology of writing and therapeutic uses of writing for enhanced creativity. I have worked with creative writers (novels and screenplays), as well as with academic writers across countless disciplines (yes, I can do this effectively without bastardizing your specialized content) in science, medicine, technology and more.

Like most ambitions worth pursuing, writing well requires both commitment and (com)passion. My clients find freedom in their craft because I know how to chase their most menacing hobgoblins–the ones that keep these writers from their best potential.

By combining a rigorous, yet flexible, methodology curated for your specific project, I use  techniques perfected over years of practical application in my creative coaching with you.

I hope that, if this speaks to you, you will join me in writing well and being well.
